Good-bye Yellow Ick Tile...

The tile is gone! I spent the afternoon popping the remaining tiles and then the awful job of pulling up the sub-flooring. The work was a lot of sweat, little blood, but no tears!

It was good to get the tile up, but there was still the shadow of the tiles. After a quick beer break, I started at the sub-flooring. The stuff was nailed down tight and although I have a good crowbar... it wasn't enough leverage. I went to the garage and got my ice chopper...like a big chisel. It certainly helped to speed up the process.

As it turns out the dining room had a past that included two built ins and a radiator that was against the wall where one is now recessed. The floor carries the ghosts of its past - a hole where the radiator pipe used to go, shadows where the built-ins were and plywood where the walls once stood.

The floor in the dining room was much lighter...looked almost new under the sub-flooring.  On the other side of the room was another surprise. There was another original wall that was removed. We will have to get some hardwood to fill this in. Overall though...the floor looks great. Just need to paint the dusty mold colored green walls.
