Good-bye tile floor!

Today I took a couple hours off of work to start tackling the tile floor. I did a little research and thought the best tool for the job would be an impact hammer. Since I have an air compressor, I decided to go with the air compressor impact hammer. I figured I didn't need a monster of the tool for the job. The tile was laid on subflooring. The tile definitely needed to come up before I could remove the subflooring.

I purchased a $30 Craftsman impact hammer and a chisel pack for another $20. It worked really well. A couple taps and the tiles popped off. The tiles didn't even get damaged really.

I was a bit stupid because I didn't put on gloves until about the third cut to my hand. The vibration of the hammer wasn't too bad. I got all the tile removed from the kitchen.

I started to remove the subflooring. We are so lucky the house was built before plywood was really used.   Under the subflooring is clear pine 3 inch wide flooring. (The rest of the first floor is white oak 2 inch)  Yanking up the subflooring is not fun at all....who needs to go to the gym

There is the black gluey gunk, but the floor guy says it won't be any problem.

We did bring over our first load of stuff that can be stored in the attic of the garage....the first of many trips.

Gina got me a new set of glasses....they're really nifty...
