Demolition!

We took the day off to meet with contractors, a flooring guy and an electrician.

First was the flooring guy. The flooring guy thought refinishing under the tile floor wouldn't be a problem. He said if we did the demo, that would could save a bit of money.

Right after the flooring guy left, the electrician came. He seemed pretty good and spent a good hour with us going over some things. As it turns out, we don't have any aluminum wiring. What looked like copper wiring was aluminum plated copper wiring which is absolutely fine. He did find that water was coming into our electrical panel...so we do need some safety work done. We are getting a quote to upgrade some outlets to GFI and install fans in the bathrooms.

The afternoon we decided to start demolishing to see what we could get up. We found that the tile floor was put on a subfloor. We knew that there was hardwood under the dining room and were really happy to find out there there is hardwood in the kitchen. But, we found the tile hard to remove so we are going to get a power tool to help us out. We did remove the yucky tile trim/baseboard.

We thought removing the tile baseboard was already an improvement.

We then had at the linoleum. Some the the backing stuck to the floor, the flooring guy said he could get that up with the sander.

We also removed the crappy carpeting on the stairs. The dirt that gets trapped under the carpet is just disgusting. The risers are painted and the treads look like they are pine. This picture is before we removed the nails and some of the staples.
